Sequoyah Council Appalachian Trail Challenge Patch

Sequoyah Council Appalachian Trail Challenge

The world-famous Appalachian Trail (“A.T.”) passes right through the Sequoyah Council as it travels roughly 2,190 miles from Springer Mountain, Georgia to Katahdin, Maine.  A challenge was created by the Sequoyah Council to recognize those individuals who hike a segment or more along the 160-180 miles in the region

The challenge distance is divided into about 25-mile segments which are further split into two or three pieces.  The central round patch and first rocker is awarded upon completing all hikes with a segment (shown by the Roman numerals).  Further rockers are earned by finishing the hikes in other segments, which do not have to be completed in any certain order.  Scout’s Honor and good record keeping are essential to maintaining track of each individual’s progress.

The order form is used to communicate who completed which segments and purchase the recognition patches.  These can be displayed on the right shirt pocket of Scouting BSA uniforms.

The portion of the Appalachian Trail covered by this challenge is jointly managed under a Cooperative Agreement between the National Forests, Appalachian Trail Conservancy, and four trail-maintaining clubs: Carolina Mountain Club, Tennessee Eastman Hiking & Canoeing Club, Mount Roger Appalachian Trail Club, and Piedmont Appalachian Trail Hikers.
